Mountain gallery
The mountains are my favourite part of the Sinai; and mountains are what this blog is really about. This gallery shows each part of the highlands, from the red summits of St Katherine to the towering heights of Wadi Feiran and the jagged, faraway peaks of the Deep South. It also shows the region’s wadis; deep, beautiful chasms that cut between the mountains, where waterfalls trickle and the relics of old civilisations stand. It was in these mountains that legend has it God once cursed a people to wander 40 years in the wilderness: but as the early traveller Joan Plowden once said: wandering in mountains like this would never be an unwelcome condemnation.
